We’ve all toyed with thoughts of how to build a robot. These thoughts always seem strongest after enjoying a couple of hours with the eloquence of Optimus Prime or watching the total annihilation on the latest episode of robot wars.

But there are some of us out here who not only dream of how to build a robot, but are actively in the process of building one. It’s not as difficult as it may first appear. It really just boils down to a question of resources and dedication. If we want to build a robot, we have to honestly decide what type of project we have the personal capacity to undertake.

It’s one thing to build a robot made out of legos - this can be a serious project in itself. The Lego robots may appear quite simple to build - but let me know if you believe so after testing driving some of those cool lego kits that are coming out these days! It can be quite satisfying to complete one of those!

But then again, it’s another thing entirely go beyond one of the many robotic kits available and design your own plans for a robot. My buddy just designed and is almost finished with a bipedal robot powered with custom built motors! All of this is walking around on a lightweight aluminum frame! Build Your Own All-Terrain Robot
Remotely operated robots are becoming increasingly popular because they allow the operators to explore areas that may not normally be easily accessible. The use of video-controlled technology has sparked a growing public interest not just in hobbyists, but also in the areas of research, space, archeology, deep-sea exploration, and even the military. Significant changes in the technology marketplace have made the creation of an all-terrain, video controlled robot accessible to even the amateur robotic hobbyist. There are many robotics project books currently on the market, but most are targeted to hobbyists, and are strictly for indoor use. This book has the ideal mix of “brains and brawn,” making it appealing to hobbyists and interested professionals alike.
